Here are some questions and answers for your first steps with dynamic lighting!
How to enable dynamic lighting on a scene?
First of all, you need the WebGL engine enabled (you can enable it before joining a game). Then this is done in the same place as the fog of war. Click on the button with a gear to the right of the title of your scene in the "Scene" dock, then activate the "Dynamic Lighting" option. You will see that your scene becomes dark and that a new dock "Dynamic lighting" appears.
How to import a scene?
You can import your scenes in Universal VTT format (.dd2vtt) from the scene explorer. Open it from the scene dock and find the button at the bottom left "Import scene". Just click on it and load your dd2vtt file.
What kind of maps can I import?
For the moment, only the Universal VTT format is supported (other formats are coming!). The file size must not exceed 16 MB, and only static (not video) backgrounds are allowed.
I have dynamic lighting enabled but my map is just dark?
The vision will be displayed as soon as you add a character token to the map, or a light.
As a GM, why do the fields of view change during the game?
As a GM, by default, you see all of the characters' fields of view at the same time. When you click on a token, you only see its own field of view. Clicking outside the token will bring back the shared fields of view.
What are the limitations of dynamic lighting?
You can add up to 200 doors, 250 lights and 500 walls. Keep in mind that each new dynamic lighting element requires additional resources from your players' computers.
How do I add walls?
Click on the "wall" tool in the "Dynamic Lighting" panel, then use SHIFT + click to draw chain walls. To add only one wall, press the mouse where you want the wall to start, move the mouse and release it where you want the wall to stop.
What map sizes are recommended?
We recommend that you create scenes around 50005000 pixels. If you and your players have good configurations, you can push the scene size up to 1000010000 pixels. We don't recommend exceeding these dimensions, even if it is possible.
What do my players see if I move a light or add a wall?
Your players see the light moving in real time, and their vision will be obstructed by the wall once it is placed.
What are the differences between a normal door and a GM door?
GM" doors can only be opened by the GM. Players see it as a wall, and have no indication that it is a door. Normal doors can be opened and closed by anyone present, using the door icon displayed above.
What is the purpose of the "lock" button in the "Dynamic Lighting" panel?
This button allows you to switch from the dynamic lighting editing mode to the normal mode. When the dynamic lighting is locked, you cannot select, modify or delete a wall, a door, or a light. This is especially useful when your scene is busy and you don't want to select lights or walls by mistake.
What is the purpose of the light templates?
They allow you to give life to your scenes with special lights, which are for example animated or with special effects.
Is dynamic lighting available for crafts?
Not at the moment.
How can I simulate that characters only see the light carried by another character?
Select the "emit light" option on the character who has a torch or a lamp, and set the field of view of the other characters to a very low number. They will not see directly around them, but will see the light emitted by the torchbearer.
What are the differences between player and GM vision?
As the GM, you see the rest of the map on a slightly transparent background, while the players do not see the rest of the map, which is on an opaque black background. By default, as GM, you see all the characters' fields of view at the same time, while a player will only see the field of view of his/her character.
Is it possible to choose a vision cone for my character?
We only offer 360° vision, to keep the interface simple and the game fluid.
How to adjust the field of view of a character?
First you have to add your token on the map, then as a GM, click on it and you will see the different vision options in the "Dynamic lighting" dock. You will be able to choose the field of view in the units chosen for the scene.
